In case you missed this from the Columbian Newspaper following the election:
My hope is for our community to come together and support our new elected officials. No matter what side of the aisle you may be on, we have work to do within our community and our country.
Looking back on the Bush presidency one of my fondest memories followed September 11, 2001. For it was the first time in my life time that I witnessed our country stand united. People forgot partisan divides, racial differences, religious affiliations, and we stood together as one country.
The greatest challenges any human being faces is humility, which means letting go of our selfish desires. Before you can fix our nation and change our world we need to start here in Vancouver, with our community and our leaders. We need to stand as a community in order to face difficult decisions that will shape our future. A mega casino only a few miles from our homes, a new bridge that will bring our community on a fast track to growth, and light rail that will ease congestion yet harbor fear for those in its path.
Instead of belittling each other and our officials, let us unite with them; let us talk to them, voice concerns and identify our hopes and fears in guiding them in the choices they need to make.
